Kelly Kroese – Scottsville V-Day

On February 24th, Scottsville community members, in partnership with the Scottsville Center for Arts and Nature, will be participating in the 20th anniversary of the V-Day Movement with a one-night benefit performance of The Vagina Monologues. Each year tens of thousands of communities around the world participate in the V-Day event to raise funding for agencies that work with survivors of violence and their families.

Proceeds from this year’s performance will go to benefit Southern Albemarle Family Practice. This rural general medicine facility is facing a 70% cut in federal funding at the end of this fiscal year. Community health care centers like Southern Albemarle Family Practice are on the front lines of all major public health epidemics including violence against women and girls.

V-Day Scottsville takes place on Saturday, February 24th, 2018 at 4:00 PM at Victory Hall, 401 Valley St in Scottsville.

Leigh Richardson – Improving Brain Health

Will these things really boost your brain?

–Fish for breakfast
–Sleeping on your side
–Turning off your GPS to improve your memory

One of the leading causes of diminishing cognitive capacity is when healthy people simply let their brain lose ground.
To best care for our bodies, we should all be well-schooled in the need to eat properly, getting plenty of sleep and regular exercise.

This is also the best advice to take care of your brain, the one organ in the body that is most often neglected.

“Brain health all starts with your sleep and your diet. That’s your foundation, because if you’re sleep deprived and nutritionally deficient, your brain is going to have a hard time working as well as it could,” advises Leigh Richardson, founder of The Brain Performance Center in Dallas.

She joins Wendy Edwards to discuss.

Pamela Gail Johnson – Plight of the American Teen

A precipitous drop in the happiness, self-esteem and life satisfaction of American teenagers came as their ownership of smartphones rocketed from zero to 73 percent and they devoted an increasing share of their time online.

Coincidence? New research suggests it is not.

Pamela Gail Johnson founded the Secret Society of Happy People in 1998. For the past two decades she’s dedicated her life to unlocking the secret to happiness. She joins Wendy Edwards to discuss this alarming trend.
