Dr. Todd Stukenberg – UVA Discovery: New Organelle That Helps Prevent Cancer

Dr. P. Todd Stukenberg,(PhD) UVA Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics and the UVA Cancer Center, has discovered an unknown structure inside our cells, called an organelle that helps prevent cancer. This knowledge will hopefully improve cancer treatment. He joins Wendy to discuss his finding.

Miranda Burnett – Scottsville Twilight Tours

Scottsville Museum is proud to announce a guided tour through Scottsville’s history which will be presented on Saturday and Sunday, 19-20 October 2019. The project is led by Museum volunteers, Lisa Bittner and Miranda Burnett, and staffed by volunteer guides and local actors and actresses. Come and take a lamplight stroll through historic Scottsville. With your tour guide, you will encounter town residents from bygone eras. Hear their tales and recollections, see notable places and people brought to life from the pages of history.

Harry Stillerman – PVCC Financial Aid Workshops

Complete the 20-21 FAFSA with help from Financial Aid Professionals during the Super Saturday FAFSA workshop series. The workshop provides hands-on assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2020-2021 Academic Year. Completing the FAFSA is the first step for students interested in obtaining federal student financial aid as well as many scholarships, especially those interested in attending college between August 2020 and August 2021. Each event is Saturday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. in PVCC Main Building, room M154.

Ron Southwick – Free Fishing Days

Due to inclement weather during the free fishing days in June, DGIF is offering two additional full days of free fishing, September 28-29, in conjunction with National Hunting and Fishing Day.

Anyone can fish free in public fresh waters around the state without having to buy a fishing license. Just remember, all fishing regulations still apply. Note that a license is still required to fish in marine areas or saltwater portions of tidal waters.

Ransomware is a form of malware in which rogue software code effectively holds a user’s computer hostage until a “ransom” fee is paid. Ransomware often infiltrates a PC as a computer worm or Trojan horse that takes advantage of open security vulnerabilities. These type of attacks are on the rise worldwide, with a more than 300% increase over the last year.
