In this segment, Les Sinclair talks with historian Rick Britton on Today in U.S. History – On this day in 1815—205 years ago—an American army won the Battle of New Orleans, the greatest U.S. victory in the war of 1812. The battle elevated Major General Andrew Jackson to national fame.
Jackson’s triumph set him on a road that ended in the White House thirteen years later. The battle gave birth to the Age of the Common Man, and for the next 50 years, his victory on the Eighth of January was marked by celebrations across the United States.
