Teacher Lexi Parker and students from St. Anne’s-Belfield School join Wendy and Eric to talk about the Wearable Art Runway Show.
St. Anne’s-Belfield School students will take to the catwalk on Saturday, November 1 and Sunday, November 2 for the School’s annual Wearable Art Runway Show. Each student will be modeling a garment made of at least 75% recycled book pages, in keeping with the evening’s theme of Unbound: Don’t Judge a Dress by its Cover.
With dresses inspired by a range of classic books from The Very Hungry Caterpillar to The Great Gatsby, the creations are the work of 26 students enrolled in the School’s Art Constructions class.
“This year we wanted to do something with recycled materials and a universal material, so books seemed natural,” said Alexis Parker, Upper School art teacher and class instructor. “There is a range of pages used from novels, illustrations, books of maps, cookbooks, comic books, and coloring books. They have been rolled, folded, twisted, dyed, painted, and more. The design options were endless!”
