Charlottesville Celebrities Shop to Stop Hunger
Charlottesville celebrities will race to fill their grocery carts in the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank’s “Shop to Stop Hunger” contest December 11 at the Emmet Street Kroger store.
Each celebrity contestant will have 60 seconds to fill his grocery cart with as much food as possible with the winner receiving the “Cart Away Hunger” trophy.
Beginning Saturday (December 6), Kroger shoppers can “vote” for their favorite contestants by donating nonperishable foods in identified barrels. The barrels are located near the checkout lanes at the Emmet Street store.
The winning celebrity is the one whose cart has the highest total value—pounds of food in the Kroger cart plus pounds donated by shoppers.
Celebrities include Les Sinclair of Z95.1; Jay James, sports director of WINA; Michael Guthrie, CEO of Roy Wheeler Realty; Terri Allard, singer-songwriter; and Jeanne McCusker, owner of Home Instead Senior Care. Each team will donate $500 to the Food Bank.
Kroger will donate the food in the cart with the highest dollar value to the Blue Ridge Food Bank. In addition, Home Instead Senior Care will pay for the food collected by other contestants so all food collected will go to the Food Bank.
