Charlottesville Swans Synchronized Swimming Team qualifies for the Junior Olympics!

Our own Synchronized Swim Team who is currently preparing to compete against the best teams and individuals in the United States at the 2018 Junior Olympic Championships in Oxford, Ohio.

These girls practice 10 months out of the year, competing in various meets. To qualify for the Junior Olympics they must be the top in their region. Since September they have practiced 4 times per week and since qualifying at Regionals, they have practiced 5-6 days a week, 3-4 hours per day. While some of the money needed was raised by various fund-raising events, most of the costs for the 22 girls to go and compete at the Junior Olympics has been absorbed by families and friends.

Charlottesville Swans Synchronized Swimming was founded in October 2012 by Coach Samantha Elhart with the mission of introducing synchronized swimming to athletes and growing the sport in the Charlottesville, VA, area developing a team to compete at the regional and national levels. She has achieved this in 6 short years sending teams to the 2015, 2016, 2017 and now the 2018 Junior Olympics.

So much of the sports news today focuses on the high school, college and older athletes. Please recognize these young ladies (many of them are age 13 and under) and their coaches who are making Charlottesville proud. They are “our” champions!
