The Israelites in the time of Malachi felt the same way. their grain stores would fade away, or crops come in short. Why? Because they neglected God by placing their material goods of more value than giving to God. (Which means they were a lot like us!) When we give to God our first and best – a tenth – we are stating that he is above us, that he is worth more than all the stuff the world has to offer.
