Jon Phaltz

Jon Phaltz with the The NRHS Rivanna Chapter talks about a farewell ceremony for the caboose in Red Hill at 3:30 PM on Thursday, December 19, 2013. Host: Les Sinclair.

Directions to PRR caboose 477768

From Charlottesville, drive south on US 29.  About 7 miles south of I 64, turn left (east) on Red Hill Road, VA 708 (marked with a flashing light as an industrial crossing).  After ~1/2 mile (just before you would cross under the railroad bridge) turn left again on Red Hill Depot Road.  This road goes up a hill, then turns to cross the tracks at grade.  Cross the tracks and turn left again on a gravel road which parallels the tracks going north.  Continue until you see the caboose.  (Note – The terrain around the caboose is rough and the climb into it may be difficult for some…sturdy shoes without heals are recommended.)
