Ellen Osborne joins the program to talk about Wordplay.
What’s Wordplay?
Wordplay is Charlottesville’s own live game show. It’s a team-based competition for people who love words, vocabulary, pop culture, history, literature, and showing off how smart they are. It’s played in six rounds, with a different subject matter for each round. If you enjoy crosswords, word games, and trivia, Wordplay is for you!
Who benefits?
Wordplay is a fundraiser for Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle. LVCA is an independent, non-profit organization that offers free, confidential, individualized basic literacy and ESL instruction to approximately 350 adults each year. Sponsorship at the $500 level covers our cost of supplying educational services to one student for about half a year. Most students stay with Literacy Volunteers for two years.
When and where is it?
Wordplay 2016 will take place on April 27, 2016 at the Paramount Theater.
Is it for adults only?
Wordplay is open to everyone who wants to participate on a team of three. The game is geared for adults, but teens should do fine.
How do we participate?
To participate, you purchase a sponsorship at the minimum level of $500. Contact the LVCA office for a registration form if one is not attached. Or, you can register for and pay for a team online at www.literacyforall.org.
What’s great about Wordplay?
Wordplay is the opposite of most fundraisers, as every single person in the room participates. The teams are competing, but everyone in the audience is playing along, too. Each audience member has their own answer sheets just like the teams. The vibe in the room is fantastic.
