Climate change is already here and will likely worsen. Expect more flooding, wildfires and drought, in America. According to a new White House report on climate change

Deborah Lawrence, Professor of Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia, joins Les Sinclair to discuss why climate change is a problem that will affect us sooner rather than later if ignored.

She says there is a LOT we can all do:

  • Turn down our AC in the summer (76° instead of 70°), turn down our thermostat in the winter (68° instead of 70°–turn if OFF during the day when at work).
  • Walk, bike or take the bus sometime when you might drive
  • Turn off the lights when not in use
  • Turn off computers when not in use
  • Recycle everything
  • Buy something used instead of new
  • Eat less meat (smaller portions, or one day less per week)
  • Eat two legs rather than four (chicken/turkey easier on the climate than cows and pigs)
  • Drive a fuel-efficient car if you have a choice

Lots we can do before we get around to agreeing on paying the true cost of our energy (through cap and trade or a carbon tax). Ultimately, we have to make the price of coal, oil and natural gas reflect the total cost of pollution because all of a sudden wind and solar will look like a bargain.
