In 2009, the “No Slack” battalion of the 101st Infantry Division had the highest suicide rate in the military. In 2010, they deployed to one of the most dangerous parts of Afghanistan. With them was Chaplain Justin Roberts. And with Justin was a video camera. From the footage of combat and later interviews with the members of “No Slack” Justin created the documentary No Greater Love (nogreaterlovemovie.com). We speak with Justin about the film, the people behind it, and how “the longest road is not the one to war, but the road home.”
We also speak with Joshua Gearheart about the new veteran-owned organization Guidon Strength (guidonstrength.org) and how it is helping youth in the community find resilience and grit through fitness workouts with veterans.
