Charlottesville City Registrar on Deadline and Special Hours

MONDAY is the deadline to register to vote in Virginia, or update your name or address on your registration in time for the November 8th election. [Please see the state’s press release below.]

The City of Charlottesville Voter Registration office has added office hours and will be open this Saturday, October 15th, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM — the last Saturday before the October 17th voter registration deadline. The office is in the City Hall Annex, 120 7th ST NE, next to City Hall and the Pavilion, and parking validation is available.

Regular office hours for the City Voter Registration office are 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday. The office will also be open until 5:00 PM on Monday, October 17th.

Voter registration applications and updates may be submitted in the Charlottesville office by Virginia residents. The office will forward applications for other Virginia localities. In person absentee voting will be available in the Charlottesville office for City of Charlottesville voters who qualify to vote absentee.

Voter registration applications or changes must be submitted to a Registrar’s Office by 5:00 PM on Oct. 17th, or postmarked by Oct. 17th. Voters who are registered with their current name and address do not need to reregister.

Applications can also be submitted online (if the applicant has a Virginia driver’s license or DMV-issued ID). The deadline for online applications is 11:59 PM on Oct. 17th, but those who need to register are cautioned not to wait too late. If the applicant is told during the online process that he or she is not eligible to submit the application online, then the application must be printed, signed and mailed, and must be postmarked by the 17th or delivered to a Registrar’s office before 5:00 PM.

Voters are encouraged to look up their voter registration status online at vote.virginia.gov, or call their voter registrar if they have any questions about whether or where they are registered to vote.
