It’s that time of year, when the gift list is large and the bills are larger that we again wonder…where does it all go? It seems like there’s a leak in our bank accounts, and we are not alone. The Israelites in the time of Malachi felt the same way. their grain stores would fade away, or crops come in short. Why? Because they neglected God by placing their material goods of more value than giving to God. (Which means they were a lot like us!) When we give to God our first and best – a tenth – we are stating that he is above us, that he is worth more than all the stuff the world has to offer. Listen to “Why God Prospers Us” and learn that we give because he gave.

Romans chapter 8 is a magnificent theological chapter, beginning with our justification before God and ending with the praise we will sing when we are with God. All great! But something is missing in that description, and that’s how we are to live here-and-now, in our day-to-day life as a follower of Christ. While it’s missing from that description, it’s not missing from Romans 8, but is right in the middle: we live as children of God, sons in the Son. It’s not us who make that determination, but the very Spirit of God testifying with our spirit that we are his children. Come listen to this message by Daniel Chambers and see how this destroys our old self, gives us a new family, and opens our eyes to the magnificent, marvelous majesty of God our Father.

Picture a rope. Just a rope…maybe one of those nice cotton-woven ones. Long. 100′ or more. Got it? Okay, now picture there is colored tape on one of the ends, about an inch. Fix that firmly in your mind…the tape is not very long compared to the rope, is it?
The Rope is a long line. The tape is a short dot. God wants you to live for the line, not for the dot! To understand more, well, watch the whole message from Dr. Rob Pochek!

Pleasure. Possessions. Power. These are temptations we have…and treasures as well! Now admittedly, we tend in the Christian life to focus on them as temptations. But God does not intend our life to be one where we close our eyes, grip our fists, and constantly have to say “no” to temptations. Why? Because these things (like all good things!) are made for us and for our joy. We just have to put them in their right place and use them for the glory of God. Okay, easier said than done. (True.) But! As Dr. Rob Pochek shows us, these things will be ours in heaven, and they are meant for our good and God’s glory here on earth. After all, Jesus was tempted with them, and obviously as fully God he can’t be tempted with evil (James 1:13). But Jesus was also fully man, and so he was tempted as a man (Hebrews 4:13). Join us in worship as we sing praises to a God who did not despise us in our weakness, but came to earth and experienced it like we do, and showed us the way past them to real joy.

The Scriptures cry out “If God is for us, who can be against!” These are stirring words, yet many of us acknowledge them with our lips but show by our lives that…we don’t believe them. And this is the greatest unkindness we can do to God. After all, he gives us his Holy Spirit to us and even has the Holy Spirit pray for us when we can’t pray. He takes everything that ever happens to us, even the worst things, and blesses us. He knows every sin we would ever commit, and loves us anyways. He makes us more than the angels, more like Christ Himself, who he sent to be like us and die for us. What greater evidence of Love could there be? Join in as we worship the Lord in song, prayer, and hearing his word proclaimed by Dr. Don Whitney of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Pressure. We’ve all been there, will be there…or are there right now. Pressure is inescapable in this world, so it’s not the lack of pressure we look for – it’s the God who sees us through in the midst of pressure. King David understood, and in this exploration of Psalm 63, FBC Youth Pastor Rev. Ben Saunders takes us into the wilderness and to the God who will bring us through. It’s Him we praise for our past, our future, and our present, even under pressure.

In Matthew 13 Jesus tells the story of a man who finds a treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. That parable is the theme for this series – The Treasure Principle. All the man had BEFORE he discovered the treasure was now expendable when compared to the treasure.
In the parable – the treasure represents the kingdom of God…coming into the Kingdom of God is a radically life altering experience. Finding the TREASURE transforms the VALUE of EVERYTHING ELSE in the man’s life. The same should be true for us – Everything Else in our life experiences a sudden value shift when compared to the Treasure we have found in Christ.
