STRASBURG, VA (WINA) – State Police continue to investigate a two-vehicle “wrong-way” crash on I-81 in Shenandoah County over the weekend that seriously injured one person. State Police say a Honda Civic driven by 30-year old Sterling resident Marlena Martinez was traveling in the wrong direction in the northbound lanes of I-81 around 1 Saturday afternoon when she collided with a northbound Honda CRV around mile marker 298. Martinez was taken to Winchester Medical Center with serious injuries. But she’s also charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving.

The CRV driver, 54-year old New Market resident Dennis Shipe, and an adult passenger were not hurt. State Police say all involved in the crash were wearing seat belts. Martinez was released on summonses at the hospital due to the extent of her injuries.
