Virginia Recruit To Miss Rest Of Season

thesabre.com-University of Virginia men’s basketball class of 2016 recruit Ty Jerome, a point guard prospect out of Iona Prep (New Rochelle, N.Y.), revealed via Twitter that he will miss the remainder of his senior season.

“I’ve received a lot of questions on when I’ll be returning to the court… To answer the question, I won’t be. I will miss the remainder of my senior year. I will be getting hip surgery. Big thanks to everyone who has made my high school career at Iona prep an extremely special one and to all of my supporters! Can’t wait to fix this problem and get healthy. Honored to finish my HS career #1 in New York State, but You guys haven’t seen anything yet!” – Jerome wrote in a tweet, which you can see by clicking here.

Since the announcement, the consensus 4-star prospect and McDonald’s All-American Game nominee has spoken with Josh Thomson of Lohud.com. Click here to read Thomson’s entire article, which indicates that Jerome will need surgery to repair a torn labrum and a misshaped ball socket in his right hip. Thomson added…

[Jerome] will undergo further tests on his left hip and expects to need a similar surgery there as well.

“I was hoping I could rehab or maybe the problem could require a quick surgery,” Jerome said in the report. “I spoke to (Virginia) coach (Tony) Bennett today and everyone’s on the same page. I think it’s best for my future to get the surgery as soon as possible.”

Thomson reports further…

If he has to have double-hip surgery, the procedures will occur a few weeks apart. Still, with a four-to-six month recovery, he expects to be healthy in time to start practice with the Cavaliers in October.

MCDONALD’S ALL-AMERICAN GAME ROSTERS TO BE ANNOUNCED

Jerome and fellow UVA class of 2016 recruits Kyle Guy and De’Andre Hunter have been nominated for the 2016 McDonald’s All-American Game. This Sunday, the nation will find out who made this year’s prestigious event.
